Text Box: ICS “green school” initiatives

ICS is proud of our students as they work to be responsible citizens of the Earth. Here are some of our “save the planet” efforts. Watch for more in the coming months.
.

Students in the upper grades are leaders in recycling.
We’ve placed white paper recycle bins in strategic places around both campuses, including all classrooms.
We’ve created bulletin boards on recycling to educate the school community.
We work to ensure that all white paper is separated from dumpster trash.
We encourage all personnel to recycle. Some staff members who don’t have white paper recycling available at home bring their white paper to school for recycling.
We assist custodians in recycling.
We have a special area in our media center devoted to earth-friendly practices and information.
Teachers have created IB units on recycling, solar heating and environmental challenges.
Some classes have a vermicomposting area where vegetable table scraps collected from the school cafeteria are used to make enriched soil for a small plant bed.
